I am sad to say that my mom, Jeanne Solomon, lost her courageous battle against cancer at 12:02 Monday morning. I am blessed that she went when she did, as I will greatly miss her, I know that she is not going through the pain any longer.
This was the woman that I always spoke of that would be an example to all the single moms out there. Divorce in the 50’s and 60’s was taboo and yet she took my sister Patti and I and moved us from Indiana to Arizona in 1958.
Since there were no wildlife organizations around then like there is now and she knew nothing of the outdoors, she got me Sports Afield and Outdoor Life magazines and that is where I got my basic knowledge of the outdoors.
She never knew what to expect from one day to the next with my friends and I. One day we brought her a 5’ bull snake for Mother’s day. As we entered the kitchen, she looked at us and said” That’s nice, now take it out and let it go”. Another time she came home for lunch and a friend and I had 47 scorpions running all over the carport, again she just said, “Don’t let them get in the house”, as she stepped over them.
Growing up I had a raccoon, owls, hawks, snakes and what ever I could find to bring home and it never phased her.
When I decided, after highschool to go to Montana and go to college, she encouraged me all the way.
I was blessed to be here with her the past two years and to be with her when she passed.
But God has a way of making things right. Nine months before he took mom, he brought the love of my life, Patti Anne Sammons, after 35 years, back into my life to share it with me and I am totally blessed.
God loves me, he gave me two phenomenal women in my lifetime.
Mom I will always love you and will miss you greatly.
I know there are lots of little boys and girls in heaven chasen critters up there that you can watch over.
Until we meet again.
