Dear Junior Elk Hunter: Congratulations on drawing an elk tag in Unit 6A North & South! The Arizona Elk Society, in cooperation with the Arizona Game & Fish Department, will conduct a youth elk hunter camp during your hunt. This program is designed to assist you in making your hunt enjoyable, safe and violation free. We will be there to assist you should you need medical assistance or help retrieving wounded or downed elk, skinning, general unit information, or searching for lost party members, The Youth Elk Hunter camp will be located at Happy Jack Lodge. We will be there Thursday thru Sunday, Oct. 18-21 (closing at noon on Oct. 21). Please feel free to stop by the camp for a cup of hot chocolate or coffee or just to chat. Coffee, hot chocolate and donuts will be available most mornings. During the weekend feel free to stop by for hamburgers or hot dogs, as long as they last. You may see officers from Arizona Game and Fish at camp, and we ask that you report any violations to them or to any Arizona Elk Society member. THURSDAY OCT 18TH, we will conduct a short seminar after dinner. Free Dinner of hamburgers and hotdogs will be served. Dinner will start at 5:00 p.m., Thursday the seminar will start around 6:00 p.m. The seminar will consist of speakers from the Arizona Elk Society and the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Tickets are FREE to every Junior hunter who presents his/her hunting license and signed elk tag during the hunter camp seminars. Elk processors will be conveniently located near Happy Jack Lodge and in Clint Wells. Your elk could weigh more than 500 pounds, so bring a friend, rope, sharp knives, freighter pack, map, compass and a flashlight. Skin your elk as soon as possible so it will cool. Please remember responsible hunting ethics. As a reminder, here are a few:
· Respect the environment and wildlife· Respect property and landowners· Show consideration to non-hunters· No shooting across or from a road· No buddy hunting
No violation is worth losing your hunting privileges for five years! The responsibility to hunt ethically is yours. The future of hunting depends on you.
