Patti and I went with a group that joined the Xplor the Outdoors Team to enjoy the adventures that lie in the beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We had taken an ice chest full of toys with us to bless some kids at the orphanage there but let the PR Director for the Westin Resort and Spa, Maripepa Gonzalez, also a dear friend of ours pick the location.
When we arrived at the daycare that she brought us to, our hearts went out to the children. As we gave them the stuffed animals we learned of the kids disabilities and how one of the mothers, who worked at the Westin, could not afford the luxury of a daycare for her child that would be able to care for the child properly that she could afford.
With that in her heart she set out to open this special daycare for the beautiful children with their special needs and the mothers of this facility all take shifts caring for the children at no charge to the others. Here are a few pictures of them and the facility they are in. They were unable to finish the kitchen facility due to lack of funding. The theraputic pool you see has an empty rack above. They need harnesses to raise and lower the children for their water therapy. Because most of these children are paraplegic or quadroplegic they have to be put into the pool with great care. The horse is very nuturing and comforting for those children that are able to ride. The used wheelchairs out front were donated by a local hospital.
Patti and I are going back down in December to help to raise funds for this daycare and work around the facility doing what we can. Patti has a background in horticulture and I was a journeyman electrician in another life.
